The internets for this week
“Between The World and Me” is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ new book, written as an open letter to his teenaged son on how to live free as a man in a black body. Read the article and the book. Read it. (via The New Yorker)
After 10 years and 3.6 billions miles, humanity has sent it’s first space probe to the icy dwarf planet Pluto. What scientists have found has amazed on all fronts, the surface is young (100 million years is young in galactic terms) and full of ice mountains and not, as some suspected, impact craters. While it’ll take a full 16 months to beam all of the data back even at the speed of light, the New Horizons space probe has advanced the knowledge of our entire species, a worthy investment. In what will amount to me never seeing or hearing from any of my friends again, the perennial money/time suck that is Street Fighter is at it again, subtly tweaking their recipe with a clever nod to how gaming is progressing in the future. With Free to play “in game purchases” being the norm on all mobile platforms, traditional gaming has seen the light, enticing gamers to play for free, earn extras for time, and short cut it with money. Society will crumble under the weight of Heroes of the Storm and SFV for sure… (via Playstation Blog)
Don’t forget to check out the latest from hommeschooled! What to pack for a tropical vacation with Vacation Season: A Primer, what to eat when laying over at Heathrow with International Snax, and an art exhibit we should all see with We Need A New Republic.
